Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 victories have been achieved on hardcourt

A resurgent Medvedev secured his first championship for nearly 30 months with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The Russian, a ex- number one, has endured a torrid year, achieving just one match at the Grand Slams and suffering a meltdown at the American major.

The player's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serve in especial - resulted in him exiting of the top ten and finally separating with former trainer Cervara.

Now working with his coach and Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently advanced in the past month - peaking in a closely contested competitive triumph over challenger Corentin Moutet.

This represents the player's maiden championship since the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard surface since that period of that year.

Success also signifies the Russian has won twenty-one championships at 21 distinct competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a tournament with my two daughters at once, so to get a title is especially meaningful," said world number 14 Medvedev.

"This victory is in tribute of my child my daughter, because the initial championship I achieved when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his past six title deciders, including in Halle in the past months.

Medvedev's defensive play style and frequent emotional displays on court had prompted observers to question if his ability to compete at the elite level was over.

However the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, attempting to come to the net and perform positively, reinforced by an better serve.

The champion came back from a break down in the opening set against the tricky Moutet, taking 4 of the final five games to go ahead.

The pair exchanged break points in the middle set before the challenger, attempting for his first tour title, took control to push for a decider.

Moutet saved 4 early-game chances in a tight final set before the champion secured a break to 15 to close out the victory.

Appropriately, the winner earned the win with a rally at the net, with the Frenchman unable to handle a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
